An Operating System is the low-level software that controls a computer system. It controls how the hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between your applications, plus the prioritization of applications when multiple ones run at the same time. Each and every program that is installed on a notebook or a desktop functions by sending requests to the OS for various services by using an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS can be performed via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting world, the OS is what controls a web server along with any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also every other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. When there're virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS which is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server plans include three Linux distributions that you can pick from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being free, the OSs are very stable and safe and the reason to offer the three of them is to make sure that you'll be able to run any application that you would like, as different pieces of software may have different requirements in terms of the environment they can be used on. Each of the three OSs is backed by a large community of web developers who have produced many hundreds of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to manage your website hosting content. Also, in case you decide that you need some other OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for max stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

The dedicated server plans that we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems to pick from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license charges, but they are also known as the most stable and risk-free OSs. We supply three different ones because each one of them is supported by a separate community. The packages that you could add on your hosting server are different and this could matter if you want to install some piece of software with specific requirements about the hosting environment. In this light, the web hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the Operating System that you'll choose. You can choose any of the three Operating Systems during the order procedure, but if necessary, we can always set up the server anew with a different one upon your request. As an optional service that you may add to the package whenever you want, we can update the OS on a regular basis to keep it as secure as possible.
